Understanding Safeguarding Risks for Children whilst online

Who should attend this course?

This half day 3.5-hour course is suitable for teaching and non-teaching staff in primary schools, secondary schools (including academies and free schools) and 6th form colleges including those in the independent sector who are responsible for understanding and safeguarding children and young people. It is also suitable for those who are working with children and young people in other sectors such as social care, charities, and the voluntary sector. There will be an assumption that attendees have a good basic knowledge of safeguarding within their organisation.

This course can be delivered at your place of work, or it can be delivered online via Zoom by one of our experienced trainers.

What is the course content?

The learning outcomes are for attendees to be able to:

  • Understand their own behaviour/knowledge and risks when using the internet and social media
  • Ensure awareness of relevant sections of Keeping Children Safe in Education September 2022
  • Explore upcoming legislation/regulation and its aims
  • Understand the areas for possible abuse online - the 3 C’s (Contacts, Content and Context)
  • Review some real-life cases where things went seriously wrong for children when online
  • Explore ways to support children and those around them to build resilience when using the internet/social media
  • Know where to access further resources to support all with online safety
What is the duration of this course?

Typical timings for this course are from 9.30am to 1.00pm or 1.00pm to 4.30pm. Twilight sessions from 5.00pm to 8.30pm are available on request.

Is this course certificated and what is its validity?

Certificates of attendance will be issued to attendees at the end of the training course.
